Andres Bautista is new President of the Senate

Andres Bautista, senator for the province of Espaillat (Moca), was unanimously chosen president of the Senate by his 29 colleagues in the election held yesterday. He had challenged fellow PRD party member, Ramon Alburquerque, who headed the Senate for the past three years. Bautista said at the top of his agenda is constitutional reform, the passing of the financial and monetary code, the civil, penal, and commercial codes. Bautista graduated in agronomy from the Salesiana Farming School (Escuela Agricola Salesiana) in La Vega. He later took a law degree at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra. Owner of a poultry farm, he is also a past director of the Tobacco Institute. He is president of the Espaillat Provincial Committee for the PRD.
