Jail for anyone who accuses the President

Listin Diario’s headline story today reports that President Mejia commented in Chile that anyone who dares to accuse him of stealing while he is in office will be sent to jail. He said that no one should doubt that “this President does not rob and he who makes the mistake of saying otherwise will go directly to a new hotel on the outskirts of San Cristobal known as Najayo,” referring to the Najayo jail. He also said that any government employee who steals will also be sent there. He made the comments to the Dominican press following a meeting of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean. He also assured that the US$500 million obtained from the proposed sovereign bonds will be invested well. He complained of the constant criticism against his government. President Mejia forecast his government would end well, despite criticism of the performance of the first quarter of the year. “What is important is the second, third and fourth year of government and we will end well and get a good evaluation,” he forecast.
