Todays newspapers carry conflicting reports regarding the government propane gas program which was suspended after fraud was detected. A commission investigating the situation said it will deliver a report on Tuesday. The extent of the fraud could reach RD$150 million. Meanwhile the president of the National Association of Propane Gas Distributors (Asonadigas), Raisa Rodriguez, applauded the elimination of the gas coupons. Acting President Milagros Ortiz Bosch commented that the government is not contemplating eliminating the subsidy. We have to try for a subsidy without corruption, she said. She explained the fraud was detected after technicians of the National Controllers Office checked the differences between the amount of propane gas that was imported, the billing of the distributors and the total sold by the propane gas distributors.
