Environment Minister Frank Moya Pons told a newspaper correspondent that his department does not object to the construction of sport venues in Mirador del Este Park. The construction is already far advanced. Moya Pons had not been available to comment when the construction started. Previously, he had expressed his opposition to the project on grounds that there were many other places where the facilities for the Pan American Games could be built. President Mejia has been firm in his support for using the Mirador del Este green area. Minister Moya Pons also told the correspondent that he blames the municipal authorities of Salinas and Baní for granting construction permits for vacation homes in the Felix Servio Ducoudray Natural Monument, better known as the Bani dunes.
