The National Council of Private Business (Conep) clarified its position on the devaluation of the peso. The press reported yesterday that the president of Conep supports the World Banks position that the peso be devaluated to RD$20 = US$1. Coneps statement says that does not represent the official position of the organization. Conep admits, nevertheless, that the overvalued peso creates problems. Conep is making it public that the position recently expressed by its president regarding the exchange market in no way means that Conep supports a devaluation of the peso, according to the leading business organization.
