The Senate passed a bill yesterday that would allow the free import of used electric appliances. The bill was presented by Senators Jose Rafael Abinader, Julio Antonio Gonzalez and Juan H. Medrano. Recently new car importers criticized the tax increase on new cars, saying it will spur an increase in used car imports. There is a ban on the import of cars older than five years, but this could be revoked by a bill that is being considered by congressmen. Already the DR is a major importer of used motorcycles and used refrigerators from Japan.
