A new star is born

Twelve year old Dominican immigrant to the US, Danny Almonte, was one of the stars of the Little League Baseball World Series held in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Danny Almonte plays with the Rolando Paulino league of the Bronx which won third place in the Series. Most of the Rolando Paulino League team players are immigrants from the DR. Almonte has lived in the Bronx with his father, Felipe Almonte, for two years now. His uncle makes a living coaching Dominican baseball players in his hometown of Moca, in Espaillat province in the northcentral Dominican Republic. President George Bush travelled to Pennsylvania to watch young Almonte pitch. For more information, see http://www.littleleague.org Sammy bats his 51st homerun Sammy Sosa, of the Chicago Cubs, joined Mark McGwire as the second player in Major League history to bat 50 home runs in four consecutive seasons. Yesterday, he batted his 51st homerun to lead the Cubs over the Cardinals 6-1. Listin Diario reports that Sammy Sosa batted his 50th homerun in 1998 on 23 August, in 1999 on 21 August, in 2000 on 16 September and in 2001 on 26 August.
