Aerodom, the company that is building the new El Catey airport to service northeastern travel destinations and cities, says the new Samana airport will be ready by July 2003.
It will serve those travelling to Samana, Maria Trinidad Sanchez (Rio San Juan, Cabrera, Abreu, Nagua), and Duarte (San Francisco de Macoris).
The El Catey airport will be half an hour from Samana and 21 kilometers from Arroyo Barril. The Arroyo Barril airport will serve domestic traffic only.
Work began at El Catey on 31 May and is estimated to cost US$53 million. (31 August 2001)
