Showmen make the best politicians?

Whoever said that show business success can translate into good government? Whoever said that a TV producer makes a good manager? There is evidence to the contrary, but Dominican political parties still want to piggyback on the popularity of show people. TV and radio producer Rafael Corporan has been the mayor of Santo Domingo, and merengue band leader Johnny Ventura currently is the mayor. Roberto Salcedo, another TV producer, is the choice of the PLD. Merengue band leader Kinito Mendez says he is studying an offer to run for PLD senator for Azua. Fernando Villalona, who ran for senator in Montecristi on the PRSC ticket, says he is still interested. A report in El Siglo points out that given the number of high profile show business stars and TV producers being asked to run on the leading political party tickets, anyone would think an entertainment career was a fast way to make it into politics.
