Brazil wins World Youth Female Volleyball Championship

Brazil won the XI World Youth Female Volleyball Championship by defeating Korea 25-16, 25-18 and 25-13 in the finals of the event held at the Santo Domingo Sports Palace. Brazil is the only nation to have won the event three times: 2001, 1989 and 1987. The rankings were: 1) Brazil, 2) Korea, 3) China, 4) Italy, 5) Croatia, 6) Taipei, 7) Argentina, 8) Turkey, 9) Algeria, 10) Czech Republic, 11) Dominican Republic, 12) Germany, 13) Cuba, 14) Poland, 15) USA, 16) Venezuela Rolf Andersen, vice president of the International Volleyball Federation, praised the organization of the event. He said that the DR is now a candidate to host the World Volleyball Championship in 2006.
