The Coalition for an Independent Justice is urging President Mejia to preselect candidates to fill one of the three vacancies in the Supreme Court. The Coalition is made up of leading business and civic society organizations. It suggests that the preselection process eliminate all those: 1) Who request not to be included; 2) Who are directors of political parties, have carried out partisan political activities in the recent past, or are known to have a strong loyalty to party interests; 3) Those who for age or health reasons do not have the needed dynamism or mental abilities;4) Those whose professional track record or ethical principles have been questioned or those who are known to have violated the law; 5) Those who may lack the experience and wisdom that are essential to be a Supreme Court judge.
