President Hipolito Mejia officially inaugurated expansion works at the Dominican Institute of Social Security maternity hospital, Hospital de la Mujer Dominicana. The hospital expansion was in 1979 during the PRD administration of the late Antonio Guzman. The remodelling cost upwards of RD$500 million. The maternity center is located Av. Bolivar in front of the National Music Conservatory grounds. President Mejia, First Lady Rosa Gomez, and Vice President Milagros Ortiz Bosch accompanied Minister of Women Yadira Henriquez at the inaugural.
