33 Dominicans reported missing in NY

El Siglo says the Dominican Consulate in New York has reported 33 Dominicans are missing as of yesterday, due to the collapse of the World Trade Center. Roberto Saladin, ambassador in Washington said on Dominican TV that most of the victims worked on the 106th floor at the Windows of the World restaurant. News reports say the restaurant’s entire staff of 70 on duty at the time is missing. Consul Luis Eludis Perez denied that hundreds of Dominicans were employed in the restaurant. He said he has reports 57 worked there but not all of them worked the morning shift. Consul Perez said they fear that many families will keep their grief to themselves because their missing relatives were in the US illegally. The Consul says he has been in contact with Congressman Jose Serrano who has introduced a bill in Congress to declare as US citizens all those who were in the World Trade Center buildings at the time.
