DR1 Daily News carried an erroneous headline yesterday that referred to travel restrictions for Muslims. The Dominican Constitution guarantees freedom of religion. Dominican immigration officers could not and would not screen passengers for religious affiliation. The report referred to the fact that Dominican airport authorities have specifically established new restrictions for the arrival and departure of citizens from Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine. The Migration Department has ordered these citizens to be questioned at the airport prior to their entry or departure. The measure went into effect after Muslim extremists became suspects in the investigation into the attack on the US.
