Have we gone nuts? is the headline of Hoy newspapers editorial today. The newspaper is furious about an undisclosed investment of reportedly millions to replace green area along some 13 kilometers of the Mirador del Sur Park with paving stones. The contract for the new walkways also calls for new light posts. The newspaper says there are projects of much higher priority, and that all that was needed at the park was good maintenance, new light bulbs and improvements to the bathrooms. The Ministry of Public Works is in charge of this project. The newspaper wonders who has gone nuts. Someone got a juicy contract, concludes the newspaper. The editorial writer complains about spending all that money on a work that is not a priority, that no one is asking for, to satisfy the vanity of some and the pockets of others. A spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works, Leo Hernandez, could not tell the newspaper the name of the contractor nor the cost. Hoy journalists ascertained that the contractor is Moya Supervisiones y Construcciones.
