President Hipolito Mejia met yesterday with Diego de Moya Canaan, president of the Dominican Construction Chamber and Manuel Troncoso Cuesta, of the National Housing Bank (BNV) to discuss the possibility of reducing interest rates on housing loans. De Moya said that formulas could be found to reduce rates for construction projects to 12-16% from the present 18%. This would boost the construction industry and help resolve the housing deficit. During the meeting, they also discussed projects that would be built using funds from the recent issue of US$500 million in sovereign bonds, according to El Siglo.
