Airport staff fired

The Migration Department has fired more than one hundred inspectors and supervisors in the last four months, according to Listin Diario newspaper. The department says the fired workers were letting people without proper documentation travel to the US and Europe. The staff worked in airports around the country: Las Americas International, Gregorio Luperón in Puerto Plata, Punta Cana Airport, Herrera International, La Romana, and also in the seaports and the ferry that goes to Puerto Rico. Seventy per cent of the fired staff worked at Las Americas International Airport in Santo Domingo. Listin says seven or eight people are detained every day by immigration authorities for trying to leave the country with altered passports or visas.
