A woman who attempted to travel to the US with seven children, none of whom are hers, was arrested yesterday at Las Americas Airport. The children carried US passports. The Listin Diario says migration authorities suspect Angela Reynoso is part of a child trafficking ring. Supposedly, parents in the US paid more than RD$60,000 each for their children to be taken to NY where parents and children would be reunited. Other news reports speculate these children could have been on their way to new adoptive parents. The children ranged in ages from one to 13 years. Normal migration regulations require special legal paperwork in order for a person who is not the parent to travel with a minor under 13 years of age. Reynoso was not carrying these documents.
