Low revenues again in September

In September, government revenues fell about RD$500 million below expectations, due to the negative economic impact of the terrorist attacks on the US and the fact that there were only 19 tax collecting days in that month. Revenues for September were RD$4.4 billion compared to RD$4.8 billion in August and RD$5.2 billion in July. The low collections for last month oblige the government to borrow from national banks to pay fixed costs. The low revenues are the main obstacle stalling public works projects and social assistence projects promised by the Mejia government during its election campaign, according to El Siglo.
