The Public Health Department is intervening today at the troubled Dario Contreras Hospital to take over its administration and to investigate doctors claims that the facility is in a state of emergency. In recent weeks, doctors at Dario Contreras have gone public with complaints about a lack of supplies and equipment which prevents them from giving proper medical assistence to those who need it most. The Under Secretary for Specialized Care, Doctor Eusebio Garrido, told Hoy that the hospital is always in a state of emergency because its a bottomless pit where the health department has already invested US$10 million and RD$12 million over the last 14 months without seeing any results. We are going to intervene and we will see if its true that there is no equipment. We will be there starting at 8 a.m. (Wednesday), said Doctor Garrido.
