World hurdling champ gets lucrative contract

World champion hurdler Felix Sánchez is proving that baseball isn’t the only way for Dominican athletes to get rich. He recently signed a deal with Nike shoes worth US$250,000 a year. Sánchez was crowned the king of the 400-meter hurdles in August at the World Athletic Games in Edmonton. In his first season, he won ten titles which have earned him in the neighborhood of US$200,000 not including the Nike deal. Sánchez is currently visiting the DR and has been invited to throw the first pitch at the La Romana/San Pedro de Macoris game this Friday as the winter baseball season opens.
