The Dominican Association of Free Zones (Adozona) reports that orders from the US have increased since the September 11 attacks. The president of the organization, José Clase, said that in August the free zone sector began receiving orders valid to the end of the year and in some cases, until January. He says the economic slowdown in the US led to about 20,000 Dominican free zone staff being laid off between March and July. Clase says most of them have now been recalled to work.
