Education Minister Milagros Ortiz Bosch has accused many teachers of being irresponsible for creating conflicts at a time when the government is looking for solutions to education problems. Recently, hundreds of teachers claimed they hadn’t been paid for up to one year. Ortiz Bosch said in El Siglo that many of those teachers were not appointed to their positions by the Education Department and she warned that she will sanction any regional or district directors who have put teachers into classrooms without proper procedure. She also said the complaints about late salaries are “more racket than reality” and insists there are factions that want to magnify the problem of late paychecks. But she promised to investigate case by case.
