A meeting this morning could determine whether a nation-wide doctors strike will go ahead as scheduled or not. The Dominican Medical Association (AMD) was expected to meet this morning with representatives from the Executive Branch to work out conflicts within the health sector. After a series of rotating strikes, the doctors association had called for a general strike on Wednesday. Víctor Diaz Alba, president of the AMD, says the outcome of todays meeting will determine whether the general strike proceeds. Among the doctors demands are payment of more than RD$10 million owed for medical insurance, back pay owed to medical residents and the restructuring of the hospitals.
