The executive director of the Airports Department has confirmed that an elected deputy tried to help a man leave the country by providing him with false documents. El Siglo reports that Deputy Jorge Luis Gómez Rojas (PRD, Duarte Province) went into the Ambassadors Salon at the Las Americas Airport last Wednesday with a person carrying a US passport that didn’t belong to him. Migration authorities arrested the imposter who was using a passport belonging to Garibaldy Gómez Ortiz, the deputy’s cousin who lives in New York. The arrested man has not been identified. The airport’s protocol coordinator, Carlos Cota Lama, said the deputy represents “a high level of danger for the Ambassadors Salon.” The newspaper says the PRD is analyzing the situation before offering an opinion.
