Doctors decided yesterday to cancel their plans for a national strike today. Members of the Dominican Medical Association met with a mediation team yesterday to discuss the doctors complaints and demands. As a result, the strike was averted and El Siglo reports that an agreement will be signed within the next few days to bring an end to the conflict. By the end of yesterdays meeting, the parties had agreed on finding an immediate solution to the retention of RD$10 million in medical insurance for doctors, the payment of salaries owed to medical residents, a salary increase for doctors and an increase in the subsidy paid to all hospitals. A further meeting was scheduled for this morning to beging preparing the accord between the Public Health department and the doctors association.
