President Hipólito Mejía has shuffled his cabinet, moving ten government officials including three Secretaries of State. He named PRD director Siquió Ng de la Rosa as the new Administrative Secretary to the Presidency, replacing Pedro Franco Badía.
Franco Badía has been named Minister of the Interior and Police, replacing Doctor Rafael Suberví Bonilla who will now become Tourism Minister for the second time.
The former Tourism Minister, Ramón Alfredo Bordas, was named Executive Director of the Dominican Center for Export Promotion, replacing Alejandro Santo Santos.
Miguel O. Tineo is the new director of the Dominican Post Office in place of PRD Vice President José del Carmen Marcano. Marcano now takes over the job of Vice President of the Pan Am Games organizing committee, a post left vacant last week when Raúl Barrientos resigned.
During the shuffle, the President also designated Alejandro Santos as governor of Duarte province, removing Miriam Guzmán who has been named subdirector of the National Housing Institute. Alejandrina Muñoz is now the subdirector of the Technical Office of Supervising Engineers of Public Works.
A report in Listín Diario says the officials will be sworn in to their new jobs today. (24 October 2001)
