The Chamber of Deputies has finally approved an exchange of land for apartments where the Pan Am Village is being built. The contract was approved yesterday without any of the opposition and difficulties that had stalled it in previous sessions. With this act, the state passed ownership of a piece of land in La Caleta to the company Sanak S.A. (the Panamerican 2003 Consortium). The 500,000 square meter plot of land valued at RD$35 million was traded for 35 apartments worth RD$1 million each. Sanak will construct 720 apartments where Pan Am athletes will be lodged during the 2003 games. Listín Diario points out that the Pan Am Village has been one of the more touchy issues in the whole process of organizing the games.
