A union representative says the new 4 x 4 work schedule for free zones will lead to more work-related accidents. Carsten Flint Hunneche of the Danish Union Council says the new hours violate international agreements and the laws of this country. That opinion is shared by the National Council of United Syndicates (CNUS) which had earlier come out against the system. It considers the new 12-hour daily shift excessive, according to Listín Diario. Flint Hunneche said the workers need to rest like anybody else but the number of accidents will go up now because they will be tired. The system establishes a work schedule of 12-hour days, four days on and four days off. Free zone businesses have supported the change because they say it allows them more flexibility in production schedules and encourages job creation.
