Stolen cars wind up in DR

US government authorities are in the DR investigating vehicles stolen in the states and brought to this country with fake consular documents. El Siglo says it has learned that more than 50 luxury vehicles of various makes and models were stolen in New York, Boston, Miami and New Jersey and sent here using false invoices issued by Dominican consulates in the US. Federal agents investigating the case visited both ports at Haina yesterday. According to El Siglo’s sources, the US authorities gave the Customs Office a list of vehicles they believe are in the DR. The investigation also includes San Pedro de Macorís, Boca Chica, and Santo Domingo as well as the Dominican consulates in New York, Miami and Boston where the consular invoices were supposedly issued. The stolen vehicles include cars, trucks and jeeps stolen by crime rings operating in various North American cities.
