Barceló hit with RD$11 million judgment

According to the Financial Times of London, the Spanish wine and liquor company González Byass, has won its lawsuit against Dominican rum producer Barceló. A Santo Domingo court has ordered Barceló to pay more than RD$11 million in compensation for breaking its distilling and distribution contract with the Spanish company. The 1999 contract, signed by both firms, included the acquisition of Barceló & Co. by González Byass. The contract, worth over RD$120 million, was cancelled by Barceló in September 2000. El Caribe, which reported the story, was not able to contact Barceló public relations for comment.
