New court house used as a flop house

The new home of the Supreme Court, which is 88% completed, has been abandoned by construction teams and is being used as a “public urinal and flop house” according to El Siglo. The newspaper reports that work on the site has stopped due to a lack of funding. The court house was budgeted at RD$534.75 million under the department of Public Works and was supposed to be finished by the end of this year but likely won’t be due to the work stoppage. Arsenio Reyes, who works in the area, told a reporter, “I don’t know how a building of such economic and moral value can be abandoned like this. I’ve even seen brigades coming in to eject people sleeping inside because the poor watchman can’t control them on his own.”
