Peynado opposes alliance with PRD

Former Vice President Jacinto Peynado says he does not favor his party, the PRSC, allying with the ruling PRD in the 2004 presidential election. In the past, Peynado has ranked as the leading PRSC presidential candidate.
There has been recent speculation that the PRD would devise a pact with followers of a new PRSC contender, former Santiago senator Eduardo Estrella, in case a second round were needed in the election. Estrella has begun his campaign for the candidacy.
According to a report in Hoy newspaper, Jacinto Peynado turned down a proposal for an alliance made by Guido Gomez Mazara, who is the Executive Branch?s legal advisor and one of the strongest advocates of the re-election of President Hipolito Mejia.
