Neither wind, nor hail, nor dark of night…

Upon leaving the Santo Domingo Country Club, where he helped honor civil engineers for services rendered to the nation, President Mejia addressed concerns over the future of the national postal service. Mejia announced that he intends to make sure that the current financial problems affecting the Dominican Postal Institute (INPOSDOM) are resolved by the end of this month. President Mejia also told reporters that the postal service would undergo a substantial restructuring once the present Òhistoric crisisÓ is overcome. Luis Ernesto Perez Cuevas, the director of the National Budget Department, says that among INPOSDOM’s troubles is the RD$180 million needed to pay the back-salaries of the postal workers. Before the Mejia administration came to power the post office had been commended for having made a comeback, restoring itself to the reliable government service it had been during the final years of the Balaguer administration and continued to be throughout the Fernandez administration.
