Diario Libre reports that as of yesterday, information is circulating on a RD$180,714 check issued by the Air Force to the order of former presidential security chief, Colonel Pedro Julio (Pepe) Goico for the purchase of food rations. The newspaper explains that the check was issued for Goico?s titled position as head of the Circulo Recreativo para Oficiales de la FFAA, the recreational department of the Armed Forces. According to TV commentator Victor Gomez Casanova, military sources say the Navy and Army paid Goico similar checks for previous services rendered. Goico is under arrest for committing credit card fraud against the government. This is the first time any mention of such a job title has been made for the controversial Goico.
Diario Libre comments that this could be the start of a new Pepe Goico-related scandal called ?chequegate?.
