The Eagles pull away

Jose Acevedo pitched the first complete game in the Dominican baseball league in two years while striking out 10 in a resounding 5-0 defeat of the Leones de Escogido. Luis Polonia continued his hot hitting with a home run and a double, knocking in two runs and establishing a new tournament record for hits. The story however was Acevedo’s domination of Escogido, a team that had averaged better than seven runs a game on their four-game winning streak. That streak was halted on Wednesday by Aguilas, and nearly forgotten after last night?s domination. Jovanny Valera had two doubles to account for the only blemish on Acevedo’s stellar performance that included five and a third innings of perfection. The loss keeps Escogido a game behind Estrellas in the fight for the final playoff spot. ?guilas Cibae?as now have a two-game cushion with five to play.

Gigantes del Cibao scored runs in the first five innings and never looked back, cruising to an 11-2 victory over second place Estrellas. The loss knocks the Stars two games behind Aguilas as the tourney comes to a close next Wednesday, the 22nd. The Giants knocked out 17 hits including four by Julio Ramirez who also knocked in one and scored two. Juan Sosa, Deivi Santos, Nelson Castro and Ramirez combined to go for an incredible 10-18 with six runs scored and seven RBI’s in a game that was over early. It may be too little too late for the Gigantes, as their playoff chances are quite slim.

Round Robin Tourney ends on Wednesday the 22nd.
Top 2 finishers move on to the Championship Series, the winner of which will represent the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean World Series in Puerto Rico
