Major General Jaime Marte Martinez, chief of the National Police, sent a memorandum to all department and regional heads yesterday, instructing the police to act at once and without hesitation in cases involving threats or domestic violence. Violent husbands or lovers killed more than 100 women last year. So far this year, at least seven women have been killed and several others wounded in similar cases. In the memo to department heads, General Marte urges immediate steps be taken to avoid these situations. Dire consequences are promised to those that do not follow the urgency of this memorandum.
