Municipal Council rules on Malecon today

The Diario Libre reports that today?s session of the municipal council of Santo Domingo will set the date for the experimental phase of the Free Malecon project to begin. The idea is to free up the seafront avenue exclusively for pedestrian traffic for 12 hours every Sunday. Apparently, only the two lanes nearest the Caribbean Sea will be designated for pedestrians. Domingo Contreras, the secretary general of the municipality, told reporters from Diario Libre that all the precautions are being taken to ensure that once the program starts the plans will be executed correctly. According to Contreras, the avenue will become a giant outdoor caf?.
