Nice paying job

The former Dominican consul in Cape Haitian, Radhames Garcia, now under indictment for the trafficking of illegal Chinese immigrants, revealed to reporters from the Listin Diario that he made US$1.5 million during his two-year tenure in Haiti. According to him, his official salary was US$4,500 a month, with an additional entitlement of US$50,000 to US$60,000 a month for issuing entry visas to the Dominican Republic. Garcia told reporters that with that kind of income he had no need to illegally transport the Chinese immigrants. Furthermore, Garcia said he plans to turn himself over to the authorities after the current special session of the legislature concludes in mid-February. His case is to be reviewed by the Supreme Court, given his stature as a legislator.
