An alleged thief and his arresting officers were taped yesterday as the policemen punched the alleged criminal inside the police station. This punishment was seen on national television last night, via RNN, Channel 27, and appears in today?s Listin Diario. The incident occurred in Pueblo Nuevo, north of the city of Ban?, where the suspect was taken to the courtyard of the stationhouse and beaten before a group of local residents, including several children. In Santiago, other incidents of the same nature have come to the attention of the press and an assistant to journalist Fremio Celado was arrested and threatened with ?having his teeth knocked out ? for a simple traffic violation.
