Government pays up

Yesterday, the government gave RD$100 million to the Central Bank to be taken out of circulation and, at the same time, paid US$135 million that was owed to the local commercial banks. Finance Minister Jose Lois Malkum also said that US$102 million had been placed in the Central Bank to shore up the hard currency reserves of the institution.
