In Ultima Hora, former tourism director Peter Morales wrote an open letter to John Muller, president of the Isla Dominicana, the franchisor of the gas station that is being erected on land that divides the Las Americas Expressway near the Las Americas free zone. Morales publicly requests that Muller explain the premise of the gas station in greater detail, saying that he has been told a board of trustees would operate the gas station and commercial center, and for which reason he questions the legal basis for the signing of the contract. He says that hearsay is linking the gas station to individuals close to the President and high-ranking government officers. Morales expresses his concern for the ecology and the safety of Dominicans, in view of the fact that it is located in the middle of an expressway, and feels it is an affront to Dominican law.
