Aguilas with clipped wings

The powerful Aguilas Cibae?as, champions of the Dominican Winter League and considered the odds-on favorite, had their wings clipped yesterday by the Mayaguez Indians of the Puerto Rican League, who defeated the Aguilas 10 to 0 in the Caribbean Baseball Series game. The pitchers for Mayaguez, Enrique Calero and Fernando Cabrera, gave up just two hits ? one to Rafael Furcal and the other to Tony Batista. At the same time, the Indians pounded out 14 hits against big leaguers Odalis Perez, Luis Vizcaino and the promising Duaner Sanchez. Only Jesus Pe?a could quiet the Mayaguez bats, throwing three scoreless innings. Despite three defensive errors from the Indians, the Dominican cause was not to be improved. The Aguilas are now in second place and one game behind the undefeated Indios de Mayaguez. Interestingly, Dominican Daniel Aquino is the leading shareholder of the Mayaguez Indians.
