Air Europa captures 55% Spanish travelers

Sonia Cambronero is proud to announce that Air Europa now has a 55-percent market share on the routes to Spain. In the past, Iberia Airlines had held a monopoly on this destination from the DR. The regional director of the Spanish airline said that Air Europa also has about 30 percent of the market of travelers headed to destinations such as Rome, Milano and London that connect through Madrid. Air Europa now flies five days a week from Las Americas International Airport and one day a week from La Romana International Airport. Cambronero said that one of the reasons behind their success is that Air Europa offers rates that are attractive She said that after years of Dominicans having to pay around RD$20,000 to travel to Europe, Air Europa introduced lesser fares that are approximately half of that amount, which she credits as one of the reasons for the new loyalty among consumers. She expects the airline will soon be able to serve the Dominican Republic with an increased seven flights a week. Air Europa also benefited from Iberia having decided to make stopovers in San Juan, Puerto Rico, which caused travel delays en route to Europe and numerous inconveniences to travelers.
