A plea for peace

Monsignor Timothy Broglio, Apostolic Nuncio of His Holiness the Pope and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, spoke up for peace yesterday at the Ministry of Foreign Relations. Foreign Relations Minister Hugo Tolentino Dipp was accompanied at the podium by First Lady Rosa Gomez de Mejia. Monsignor Broglio urged that peaceful solutions be found to the world crisis. His talk, titled ?John Paul II, Lawyer for Peace? opened a series of talks scheduled at the School of Diplomacy of the ministry and organized by Deputy Foreign Relations Minister Mercedes Cabral de Arcala. Most of the country?s foreign diplomats were present, with the notable exceptions of the ambassador for the United States and Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez.
?John Paul II advocates a culture of peace that requires the training of human beings, in which the values are those of justice, fraternity and love that should be at all times present,? said Broglio.
?I do not have the 100 percent answer to what will happen but, I hope the war is avoided by men of goodwill. Up to this moment it is the only thing that we can hold on to: hope,? he said.
