The Channel 13 TV show La Casa de Cristal presents the lives of two 23-year-old Dominicans, Julio Mercedes Holguin and Yoselin Payano, both born and bred in Santo Domingo, who have come together for a chance to win RD$50,000.
The twosome will win the cash award if they can survive 33 days living together in a three-by-six-meter glass house in Calle El Conde, the city?s pedestrian mall.
Yoselin is a high school graduate who studies broadcasting. Julio is a high school graduate who works as a clerk in a sports-betting store, as a clerk in foodstuffs warehouse in a cafeteria and is in charge of purchasing for a Chinese restaurant.
The makeshift house was fitted with permanent water and light service, television, VCR, central air conditioning, stove, refrigerator, washing machine, iron, mini-closet, sofa bed and other basic items.
Their everyday happenings are aired live on Channel 13 from Monday to Friday at 12:30pm. Yoselin told reporters that the personalities of the two are incompatible, as she says Julio spends hours combing his hair and admiring himself in the mirror and does little to help in the house. While the couple receives food supplies, they must cook their meals themselves.
Julio says that Yoselin fights a lot, but he is patient because if she gets fed up with him and abandons the challenge, he too will lose out on the opportunity to make RD$50,000 in a month.
The house is located at Calle El Conde between 19 de Marzo and Jose Reyes streets. The merchants association of the Calle El Conde pedestrian mall is sponsoring the event.
