Hoy newspaper reports that the government will spend US$15 million to remodel the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Stadium, the designated site for track and field events and the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2003 Pan American Games. The repairs have been entrusted to the Dominican-Venezuelan firm of Jantesa-Casalca-Diconsa. Hoy newspaper says that the company claims there is still time for the stadium to be ready by the deadline set for 30 May by the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO).
Roberto Torres, assistant to the Minister of Public Works, said that sports installations being prepared for the Games are roughly 65 percent complete, as reported in Listin Diario.
