Cafe Montez in the Colonial City

150 original Maria Montez (1912-1951) posters deck the walls of Caf? Montez in the Colonial City. These are treasures that restaurant owner Geoffrey Needler and his Barahona-born wife Belkis today readily share with their customers. Probably the newest restaurant and bar in the Colonial City, the Caf? Montez (Calle Sanchez #261, almost at the corner Calle Mercedes, Tel. 809 685-2841) serves the traditional food of southwestern Barahona, where the late exotic beauty-turned Hollywood celebrity Maria Montez herself was born and delicious American deserts. Shortly after marriage, Maria Montez traveled to the US with her banker husband to become at 28 years one of the leading Hollywood stars of the time.
Upon previous request, Maria Montez fans can also watch any of the star?s 26 films (2 French, 3 Italian and 21 American) in the second floor room prepared especially for viewing. Her film, Arabian Nights, is considered a classic of its genre.
The restaurant is open Tuesday to Saturday evenings from 5 to closing.
