Traffic police returned to police

The Chamber of Deputies amended a bill to return the Metropolitan Transport Authority (AMET) agents to the jurisdiction of the National Police. In a letter to the Chamber from Major General Jaime Marte Martinez, chief of police, he requested that the AMET be returned to the control of the police force and proposed that the department be known as the Direccion de Seguridad Vial e Interurbana, to be directed by a police general.
The Chamber of Deputies heard the two readings required for the approval of the bills for the police reform, and another that creates new conditions for prosecutors in the Ministerio Publico. In addition to giving them increased autonomy, this bill would also entitle prosecutors to the same status enjoyed by judges, and would mean that, once appointed, they could not be removed from their posts. The bill still needs to be passed in the Senate and signed by the President.
