President Hipolito Mejia said that the PPH faction within his government would support a PRD candidate for President in 2004, regardless of whether this candidate be himself or another person. He said that the PPH would not support someone who has confronted him for the presidential candidacy. Speaking on his ?Una Vez por Semana? TV program on Channel 4, Mejia said that the party would hold a summit with all the pre-candidates and, regardless of who is chosen, he as President, would go on the road to campaign for the PRD to remain in power.
Mejia said yesterday that the PRD would not see a victory in the elections with just anyone, however, but that the party is strong and no one has enough power to divide it. Mejia said that former President Leonel Fernandez is the most vulnerable opposition candidate because during his term in government ?he did nothing.?
